Portfolio Work

I produced this bulk of work when preparing my portfolio for my university interviews. It consists of my best, most successful work from three of my set projects, one being based on fruit where I created and experimented with different prints and colours, adding stitch into these, this was my first project and during this project was when I had first used certain techniques. My final piece for this project was 3 tea towels using screen print and stitch, I was pleased with these as they reflected upon my research and experimentation, however, looking back upon this work I feel I could have experimented more with my surface and the texture of this, adding more complex techniques and colour.

My second project in this set of work is the title 'fragments' where I decided to base my work on natural objects; specifically shells and rocks/crystals I had collected, I made different collages with this inspiration, layering shapes and colours with drawings to spark more ideas. From this I then came to experiment with rust dyes, I felt this reflected upon the natural objects, being a natural technique.

My third project that is also portrayed in this set of work is plants, I started off by taking photographs of plants and started to do sketches of these using different styles of drawing, changing the thickness of line. From this starting point I began to look at the detail within plants, looking at texture and line, compared to the object as a whole, this gave me more interesting ideas. Weaving was my main technique for this project as, for me, it reflected the line, shape and colour within my found objects and drawings.
