In todays workshop we were shown how to create a simple knit sample on a knitting machine. We were told to use the thicker acrylic yarns as these are the simpler yarns to use within this experimentation and for first experience with a knitting machine. We were shown how to thread up this machine and once we completed this we could begin to make a knit sample, for mine I used two different colours being white and blue and created a stripe pattern instantly linking back to my project title.

I enjoyed the introduction to this technique and found the other alternative ways of using this machine interesting. We were shown how to create holes within the sample, ladders and hems, each creating unique detail to the knit, I’m excited to experiment with these during my project, being able to look at my chosen ‘urban areas’ and recreating the ‘checks and stripes’ within these into my knitting samples.
