Looking at inspiration for my stripes and checks project

The briefing for this project was to look at the urban environment and looking at pattern and structures within this area. Using the title of stripes and checks, I started thinking of places/areas that I could use for inspiration for this specific project, I went for a long walk around my home town (Sheringham) taking pictures of roads, textures of houses, brick walls, train tracks, gates etc., all things that belong to the urban environment and that contain interesting shapes, colours, marks and textures. I found that there were loads of cobbled houses, some being made of whole stones/rocks and others being built up of sliced rocks, this contrast was interesting as it was made up of the same material, however created a different appearance for the exterior of a house.

From these aspects of the town I began to look at my images and reflect the specific lines and textures within these as a starting point. Using similar colours, creating simplistic pages of drawing, here's an example of one of these:

Although I haven't copied every little detail and line within the image of an exterior wall of a church, I've used the technique of looking at the line of the image rather than the image as a whole. I think that this creates an interesting idea and this way of drawing could enable me to pull apart these lines and shapes and create a completely different drawing. Simplifying images is a technique that I like to use within my work, looking at the abstract and geometric side of it, pulling images apart and with the inspiration, creating new, more developed forms of ideas.

This image of a church's exterior wall was interesting and unusual to look at as it was made up of loads of small tiles and colour. I took pictures of this wall in sections to again create a series of images that look completely different although all made up from one area of a building's exterior.
