Experimenting with media

Developing from my previous sketchbook work I have used one of the drawing technique's we used right at the start of this year which is making marks, textures and pattern onto a large piece of paper, then cutting this up into shapes. I got some pieces of A1 paper and decided to use a mixture of pens, crayon, pastels and paint as my media and using different materials and drawing tools like rulers, cardboard and bubble wrap. I used all of these materials to reflect the shapes and textures within my urban environment inspiration, creating one very large piece of abstract work, once I had completed this I waited for it to all dry to then cut it up into shapes and strips, this was extremely interesting as it created a completely different appearance, one shape/texture on the paper was now a completely different image.

Here's an image of the mixed media work as one whole piece:

I've used a varied amount of media, shape, pattern, colour and texture to reflect upon my inspiration. I feel like this piece as a whole looks quite vibrant and funky, however, to be improved I have used the technique and previously stated of cutting this up to make collage.

This technique has made certain colours and line stand out and become a focal point, however when it was one whole image this wasn't as emphasised. I think these collages are successful and I could see them being turned into prints on interior objects like cushions, lamp shades, duvets, throws etc. The contrast of media and colours has worked well and look good as collages, individually placed to create one whole image.
