Sketchbook work inspired by the urban environment

Looking at my inspiration for this project I've started to create more pages of work within my sketchbook, mainly using images of brick work of exterior buildings to produce this.

I feel that this specific urban environment I've chosen enables me to create 'stripes and checks' and has given me a good starting point that I can develop and experiment from.

From this brick work of exterior walls and paths I've reflected these into my sketchbook using my own style of abstract, simplifying the shapes using fine liner pens, thin tape and collaged paper. I think these work well as a starting point of reflecting my inspiration, however, I feel they may be a bit too simplistic as they're just squares/rectangles placed into lines and columns. To improve this I feel that I could develop them more by creating textures, more layering of colour and pattern and experimenting with scale.
