I focused on getting more sketchbook work done the start of the week to develop and give me more ideas and allow me to experiment before I come to any conclusions for designs as I have been planning to create a screen. Moreover, on Tuesday I done some sublimation printing with my digital designs I've been working on with photoshop and illustration, I gave my memory stick to Neil that had my designs saved as 'tiff' files, he then sent these to the digital printer and they were printed onto this special paper that I then transferred onto my fabric using the heat press, this was a quick way to print my designs onto fabric, there was no washing out or steaming needed, just the simple transfer onto fabric. I think these prints look good as samples as they're full of colour and design which links to my target audience who will find bright colours fun and vibrant. Moreover, I could have experimented more with my designs by changing scale, colour and composition of them to make them look completely different, however I'm happy with these to begin with considering I haven't been able to experiment with this technique before.
On Wednesday the 31st I signed up for the Devore and discharge workshop, this was a refresher workshop I wanted to re-familiarise myself with. Discharge acts like a bleaching agent, the active ingredient in this is called 'decrolin', this needs to be steamed to activate. Moreover there's something called 'illuminating discharge', this adds colour as well as bleaches, however, only works on silk and wool, discharge only works well on a dyed fabric as the discharge paste acts as a white print paste, so will show up better on darker coloured fabrics. Lastly, Devore burns away fibres, so wherever you print this paste onto your fabric it will take away some of the fibres to make that part of the fabric thinner, once put in the heat press.
Here are some images of my work:
On Thursday the 1st of November, I went to my work placement with interior designer, Morag Christy where we started off with making calls and e-mails to clients and companies, then headed to site where I measured up the two bathrooms so that Morag could scale these and know what products will fit and what wouldn't. We then met a man from a huge property developing company, he wants morag to design the colour scheme and tiles for the house. (More about this day in the work experience section). And lastly, on Friday I finalised my screen design and completed my four layers of drafting film.
The first image was my original design, then each of the other images represent each layer (each colour of printing), the top right image is the final layer as this includes every line and every detail, then the rest are specific parts of the drawing that are going to be block colour underneath the detail.
